If you’re not familiar with the Mueller master plan, there’s a 10 acre site set aside – could it be for a Mueller Middle School?
As you may be aware, the Austin Independent School District is continuing their Facility Master Plan process to make recommendations for a possible bond proposal to support the funding for capital efforts like school improvements and new schools. The citizen committee, Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee (FABPAC), is finalizing recommendations to present to the AISD Board of Trustees for a possible bond measure.
This process has included consideration of the 10-acre site designated for a school in Mueller’s master plan envisioned to serve the Northeast area. The FABPAC has discussed a possible Northeast middle school for this site and whether it would be included in a 2017 bond proposal.
The District has scheduled six Community Feedback meetings next week to share information and gather input. As they describe the meetings. The meetings most focused on our area’s schools will be:
- Wednesday, May 17th from 12 – 2pm at the Millennium Youth Complex Recreation Center
- Thursday, May 18th from 6 – 8 pm at Reagan High School
“In May and June the FABPAC will be working to develop a potential bond proposal. This series of meetings is important to provide community input on priorities for bond projects. It is anticipated the Board of Trustees could call for the bond in June with a potential bond election in November.”
Information, including the dates, times and locations of the six outreach meetings, can be found here: www.austinisd.org/fmp/meetings
We encourage you to participate in these meetings and via other feedback options available in this AISD process.
The neighborhood is split into two school zoning districts at present – the current Mueller Middle Schools are Kealing and the school formerly known as Pearce. With this new initiative, we could see a great new school for the Northeast of Austin.
